In March, the National Highway Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety announced a commitment by 20 automakers (which is more than 99% of the US market), to make automatic emergency braking (AEB) as a standard feature (part of the basic sticker price) on most new cars by 2022.
Excluded for now will be heavy duty trucks and some high performance sports cars.
Toyota came out and said that AEB would be standard on a majority of their vehicles ahead of schedule by 2017.
Automatic Emergency Braking will undoubtedly prevent countless crashes and save many lives and injuries in the future.
